SCVTHS STUDENTS TAKE PART IN COUNTY-WIDE LEAF CLEAN-UP EVENT
On Saturday, November 18th, students and staff from various student organizations at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) spent the day cleaning up leaves for elderly and disabled homeowners throughout Somerset County who are unable to do their own yard work.

SCVTHS FOOD DRIVE DELIVERS HOLIDAY CHEER
The students and staff at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School recently held their 24th Annual Holiday Food Drive. As a result of their generosity, 14 food baskets were delivered before Thanksgiving to SCVTHS families in need. The baskets included a turkey, stuffing mix, gravy, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, and other traditional trimmings. In addition, a pie baked by students in the culinary arts program accompanied each delivery.

SCVTHS STUDENT SELECTED AS SEMIFINALIST IN THE 2023-2024 COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Hector Montes, principal of Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School, announced today that Navya Gobinathan of Bridgewater has been selected as a Semifinalist in the 2023-2024 Coca-Cola Scholars Program.

Hector Montes, principal of Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School, announced today that Lindy N. Bingel of Bridgewater, Maggie Chen of Hillsborough, Keshav Gurushankar of Bridgewater, Arnav Khanna of Hillsborough, Adwiti Kolli of Franklin Park, Riya D. Mehta of Bridgewater, Moksh Patwari of Bridgewater, Ashley Qi of Green Brook, Pallavi Routray of Hillsborough, Sohum B. Shah of Hillsborough, Kimia Shahriyar of Belle Mead, George K. Thomas of Bridgewater, and Vir P. Trivedi of Hillsborough have been named Commended Students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

SCVTHS STUDENT COUNCIL HOLDS SUCCESSFUL CLOTHING DRIVE FUNDRAISER
The Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School Student Council hosted a clothing fundraiser during the month of October. As a result of their efforts, over 1,000 pounds of clothes, shoes, purses, bed and bath linens, and even stuffed animals were collected.

SCVTHS STUDENTS CELEBRATE ANNUAL WEEK OF RESPECT WITH EVENTS HIGHLIGHTED BY CHRIS SINGLETON
As part of the annual Week of Respect (October 2nd – 6th) and in accordance with the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (P.L.2010, c.122), Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) welcomed former Chicago Cubs draft pick and motivational speaker Chris Singleton for an assembly on forgiveness, unity and respect.

MEL MCENROE NAMED SCVTHS STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER 2023
Mel McEnroe, a Senior in the Health Occupations program, has been selected as Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s (SCVTHS) Student of the Month for November 2023. Mel is the daughter of Tim McEnroe of Warren.

On October 7th, students in the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) participated in the New Jersey Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s.

Former SCVTHS Superintendent Returns to Visit Trade Wins Restaurant
Mike Maddaluna, SCVTHS Superintendent of Schools from 2003 to 2011 was recently invited back to the district to dine in Trade Wins restaurant by current Superintendent of Schools, Robert Presuto. Joining them was Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent (and Mr. Maddaluna’s former assistant), Carene Jegou and Commissioner Deputy Director, Douglas Singleterry. The group enjoyed a menu that included chicken rice Florentine, coconut shrimp & orange horseradish marmalade sauce, roast beef & provolone with baby arugula & chipotle aioli and a grilled chicken cobb salad all prepared and served by the Culinary Arts program.

SCVTHS STUDENTS RUN REGISTER TO VOTE CAMPAIGN
The League of Women Voters of the Greater New Brunswick Area reached out to Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) in an effort to boost voter registrations among eligible high school students. SCVTHS Social Studies Instructor, Meghan Welch volunteered to work with the organization and implemented a register to vote campaign in all five of her United States History classes.

SAMANTHA HANLON NAMED SCVTHS STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER 2023
Samantha Hanlon, a senior in the Law & Public Safety program has been selected as Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s (SCVTHS) Student of the Month for October 2023. Samantha is the daughter of Thomas and Suzanne Hanlon of South Bound Brook.

SCVTHS STUDENTS ATTEND SKILLSUSA’S WASHINGTON LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE ON CAPITOL HILL
A delegation of students, instructors and advisors from New Jersey met with their elected officials in Washington, D.C. in September to talk about how their career and technical education (CTE) programs have prepared them to be college and career ready.

DCF's Children's System of Care (CSOC) provides all children and adolescents – regardless of insurance status - with coordinated access to mental health supports, substance use treatment and services for intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The NJDOE has identified and recognized the Somerset County Voc-Tech School District as a High Performing School District as per the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC). The District Performance Review has met the benchmark of 80% or great on the NJQSAC Continuum in all five of the following indicators:- Instruction & Program; Fiscal Management; Governance; Operations; and Personnel
The SCVTS District will submit an equivalency waiver request to demonstrate that SCVTS District has followed the NJQSAC process and meets all code requirements.
