    The Welding Program instructs students in multiple different welding types and techniques. Students also learn how to approach a welding job from estimating the time and cost of a job to designing the process that will be used to accomplish the work. Fourth year students have the opportunity to learn advanced techniques in class or to begin their career via work/study programs. Membership and certifications are available through the American Welding Society.

     Curriculum

    Year 1:
    AWS safety, basic skills, history of welding,
    shield metal arc welding (SMAW),
    oxy-acetylene, gas metal arc welding (GMAW)

    Year 2:
    Vertical up welding, overhead welding,
    GTAW (TIG) welding, aluminum, carbon steel,
    stainless steel

    Year 3:
    Job/Career possibilities,
    intermediate fabrication, thin materials,
    pipe welding

    Year 4:
    Repair work, mass production techniques,
    3G, 5G, 6G welding, cast iron welding,
    cast iron welding, oxy-fuel brazing

     

    Classes meet for 3 periods/2 hours per day, 5 days a week

    Average number of new students accepted per year: 17
