Christian Martinez, a junior in the Auto Body Program, has been selected as Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s Student of the Month for February 2020. Christian is the son of Cristobal and Martha Martinez of Bound Brook.
Mathematics Instructor Michele Krause, one of three instructors to nominate Christian, stated, “Christian is a caring and positive member of our school, always trying to make SCVTHS a better place.” English Instructor Brittany McGarry added, “Christian helped me create the new Recycling Program and is an absolute rock star attempting to lift this program off the ground.” Finally, Theater Arts Instructor Alison Mingle said, “I would love to see Christian acknowledged for the difference he made in our school community.”
At SCVTHS, Christian is a founding member of the Student Association for Environmental Awareness (SAFE-A) Club, a student representative for the district’s Green Team, a member of the SCVTHS Rotary Club, the Junior Class President, a student ambassador and a member of the SCVTHS Varsity Soccer Team. At his sending district in Bound Brook, Christian is a captain for their varsity cross country team.
Outside of school, Christian works for Archrival Marketing Agency and also at Shoprite as a cashier. In his free time, Christian enjoys playing the piano, working out and volunteering at the local animal shelter. After graduating from SCVTHS, Christian plans on continuing his Auto Body education in California. He then plans to obtain a job in the trades to gain the experience necessary to begin a business.
“I love helping others and improving life in my community,” said Christian upon receiving the Student of the Month award. “I hope to make the world a better place.”
