    The Academy for Health & Medical Sciences is a rigorous 4 year Honors Program for highly focused, college bound students. The Program is a partnership between the Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School and Raritan Valley Community College. Successful students will graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate degree in General Science.Academy student

    In the fall of their 8th grade year, students in both Somerset and Hunterdon County may apply to the Academy for Health and Medical Sciences. Students are accepted into the Academy based on the following admissions criteria: 7th and 8th grade GPAs, 7th grade standardized test scores, admissions testing for mathematics, language arts, and science, and a personal interview. Only students who meet the minimum amount of points are eligible for admission.

     In order to remain in the Academy, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all classes, including their high school and college courses, at the end of each quarter on their high school transcript. The Academy student must also obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of each semester on their college transcript.


    Year 1:
    •High school coursework including Honors courses
     in Biology,
    Combined Algebra, Physical Science, English, and Spanish

    •Computer Literacy (3 college credits)

    Year 2:
    •High school coursework including Honors courses in History,
    Geometry, English, and Spanish
    •Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, Intro to Cultural Anthropology, Human Origins (14 college credits)

    Year 3:
    •High school coursework including Honors courses in
    History and Spanish, and Professional Development
    •Pre-Calculus 1 & 2, Gen. Biology 1 & 2,
    Gen Chemistry 1 & 2, English Composition I (25 college credits) 

    Year 4:
    •High school course work including Financial Literacy and Honors Spanish
    •Current Social & Moral Issues, Calculus 1 & 2 or Statistics 1 & 2,

    Gen. Physics 1 & 2, English Composition II (22 college credits)


    Classes meet on both SCVTHS and RVCC campuses

    Average number of new students accepted per year: 30

    Opportunity for professional certifications: NO

    SIGN IN IS FROM 7:30am until approximately 7:45am

    - Enter via the Main High School Entrance
    - Look for the Academy Registration table and sign in
    - You will be escorted to the testing room
    - Testing is approximately from 8:00am until noon
