Maria O’Farrell Named SCVTHS Student of the Month for September 2025

Maria O’Farrell of Franklin, the September 2025 Student of the Month at  Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School.

Maria O’Farrell of Franklin, a Senior in the Automotive-Diesel Technology program at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS), has been selected as Student of the Month for September 2025. Maria is the daughter of Mihai Horvath and Shannon O’Farrell.

Maria was selected for the honor by the SCVTHS staff, who praised her outstanding service to the school. She serves as a Student Ambassador, and in this role she travels to middle schools throughout the county to tell students about the opportunities for career and technical education at Vo Tech. She also volunteers her time at community events like the Somerset County 4-H Fair, and is known for her reliability, courteous behavior, and her contagious positivity.

In addition to her work as a Student Ambassador, Maria is also on the SCVTHS softball team. She has received the Captain’s Award and been named Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for her prowess on the field. She also competes in automotive competitions held as part of SkillsUSA. Academically, she has earned Honor Roll or High Honor Roll every year, and was named a Stellar Student.

When she is not studying or engaged in extracurricular activities, Maria enjoys riding horses and playing softball. She has also worked at The Landing in Hillsborough, Shade Gap Garage in Morristown, and has recently started working at F/X Automotive in Whitehouse Station.

Maria is still deciding on her path after high school, but is considering continuing her automotive training at a trade school or going directly to work in the industry.
