Campus Clean-up at SCVTHS

- To kick off Spring, a group of dedicated Agricultural Science students and staff at Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School (SCVTHS) took some time to clean up around the school’s Bridgewater campus.

Students joined Agricultural Science instructor Erik Fargo and Principal Michael Meyer to remove trash that had accumulated over the winter from school grounds and the nearby woods. While much of the refuse generated on campus finds its way into the garbage and recycling containers located throughout the SCVTHS grounds, some items do not make it into the bins.

Cans, bottles, paper, cardboard and other debris were collected. The students filled five large garbage bags with over 25 pounds of trash during this clean-up.

When asked how he thought the project would impact people, SCVTHS Agricultural Science senior Jacob Masciulli of Branchburg said “Seeing people making an effort to keep campus clean kind of puts it in people's minds that maybe they shouldn't leave their garbage all over.” He added, “Maybe people will realize that something as mundane as garbage pickup can be a fun community task that you can do with your family or with a friend group.”

SCVTHS Principal Michael Meyer joined the crew as they picked up trash in and around the campus. “I was so proud to see our students volunteering for the campus clean-up” he said. “Not only does it make our campus look nicer, but even seemingly small efforts, such as removing a piece of plastic or a soda bottle, can have a meaningful impact on the environment. Both are incredibly important to me.”
