Students in the Cosmetology Program learn the fundamental skills to gain employment in the field of Cosmetology, including hair care, makeup, barbering, and nail care. Students also learn the skills related to seeking and maintaining employment as well as small business operations. Course work is both hands-on and academic. Students will have the opportunity to obtain additional certificates such as shop safety and extensions. During the course of their second year, once students have obtained 600 hours they can apply for their permit which will allow them to work in a salon. During the course of their fourth year, students who have obtained 1,000 hours will have the opportunity to take the State Cosmetology Board Exam. Many students choose Cosmetology as a career and a means to help financially while attending college or university.
