Dance Auditions

SCVTHS APPLICATIONS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2026

Audition Process

Dancers should arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled audition time to properly warm-up. 

The dancer will be evaluated on their overall knowledge and skill level, which includes maintaining correct alignment and rotation, executing the sequence that is taught, displaying a knowledge of the fundamentals in dance, and showing us their love of dance. 

 The audition is taught by the dance faculty and it includes:

• Ballet barre, petit allegro, pirouettes and grand allegro
• 24-36 count Modern dance phrase
• 24-36 count Jazz phrase
• The dancer may present a two-minute solo. This is optional and if they present a solo, they need to have music and a dongle, if needed, to connect to our sound system.  The auditionees will not have access to our wifi, so they need to download their music and make sure that it will play on a portable speaker.
• An interview follows after the class portion of the audition.

 DRESS:

Women: Leotards, footless tights, ballet shoes/jazz shoes.  

Men: Jazz pants, t-shirt, ballet shoes/jazz shoes.  

Hair must be worn off the face and neck.

Bring warm-up clothes, as there will be a waiting time between solos/interviews.
