INTRODUCTION
The Academy for Health and Medical Sciences (AHMS) is a "school" within a school and is located at Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School. AHMS began in the 2006-2007 school year and the first Academy class graduated in the 2009-2010 school year. Students enter the ninth grade year as a cohort and progress through an intensive four year course of study sequence. The Academy for Health and Medical Sciences, in conjunction with Raritan Valley Community College, provides students with the opportunity to earn both a New Jersey high school diploma and an Associate's Degree in General Science. In order to remain in this highly specialized program, students need to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all courses.
In the 2025-2026 school year, 26 students received degrees from Raritan Valley Community College. These
21 students also earned a high school diploma from Somerset County Vocational Technical High School.
STUDENT SELECTION
Students in both Somerset and Hunterdon County may apply to the Academy for Health and Medical Sciences. Students are accepted into the Academy based on the following admissions criteria: 7th and 8th grade GPAs, 7th grade standardized test scores, admissions testing for mathematics, and language arts. Only students who meet a minimum point level are eligible for admission.

AWARDS AND HONORS
Academy Principal’s Honor Roll: Awarded each marking period to students earning an “A” or above in all subjects.
Academy Honor Roll: Awarded each marking period to students earning a “B” or above in all subjects. National Honor Society for High School Students: Open to juniors and seniors who meet the society’s standards for academics, character, leadership, and service. Students must have a GPA of 3.50 or above in their high school and college coursework in order to be considered.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for Community College Students: Open to juniors and seniors who have a GPA of 3.50 or above in their Raritan Valley Community College coursework.
COLLEGE PLACEMENT 2026
One hundred percent of the students who earned an Associate's Degree will be attending a four-year college or university. Graduates from the Academy have been accepted for admission to the institutions listed below:
