For the second year, Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School student Veda Kota of Hillsborough, a junior in the Academy for Health & Medical Sciences, has been invited to participate in the Rutgers Oncology Olympiad team event. Of the over 225 students who registered for the qualifying test, Veda scored in the top ten percentile. The event, to be held April 6, is an academic competition open to high school students from across the country and focuses on cancer diagnosis, treatment, symptoms, genetics, and healthcare specialists.

Program Coordinator Casandra Gabriele explained, “This elite event aimed to inspire the next generation of medical leaders and raise philanthropic support for education programs.”

The Oncology Olympiad consisted of a qualifying test, taken in January 2019. On April 6 at Rutgers Cook Student Center, 109 students representing thirty-five high schools from New Jersey have been invited to compete in the Oncology Olympiad team event.
