The final results of the third annual Rutgers Oncology Olympiad have been released. Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School student Veda Kota of Hillsborough, a junior in the Academy for Health & Medical Sciences, placed first in the Genes Play a Role Mini Event and third in the Cancer Knowledge Mini Event.

The Oncology Olympiad consisted of a qualifying test, taken in January 2019 with a follow-up on April 6 at Rutgers Cook Student Center, where 109 students representing thirty-five high schools from New Jersey competed in the Oncology Olympiad team events. The academic competition was open to high school students from across the country and focused on cancer diagnosis, treatment, symptoms, genetics, and healthcare specialists.
