SOMERSET COUNTY VOCATIONAL & TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL HOLDS COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
SCVTHS held an in-person Graduation ceremony on Friday, July 10, 2020
One hundred fifty students received their diplomas in eighteen different vocational programs ranging from Automotive Technology to the Performing Arts. In addition to a virtual graduation ceremony on June 17, 2020 at 7:00 PM, an in-person ceremony was held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:00 AM on the campus of Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School.
During the SCVTHS virtual Graduation ceremony, the national anthem was performed by Theater Arts graduating senior Julianna Ettore of Branchburg. Superintendent Dr. Chrys Harttraft and Principal Hector Montes delivered remarks to the graduating class, a letter was read from Somerset County Freeholder Director Shanel Y. Robinson and SCVTS Board of Education President William G. Hyncik, Jr. conferred the diplomas and certificates. Additionally, addresses were given by Career and Technical Education Salutatorian Brian Coletta (Health Occupations) of Greenbrook, Academy for Health and Medical Sciences Salutatorian Mayaank Pillai of Hillsborough, Career and Technical Education Valedictorian Yatzeidy Gonzalez (Law & Public Safety) of Franklin Park, and Academy for Health and Medical Sciences Valedictorian Elizabeth Gershater of Bridgewater. Finally, during the video tribute to the graduating seniors, Theater Arts graduating senior Sophie Belkin of Branchburg sang a rendition of the song “Landslide.”
In addition to graduating from high school, thirty students from the Academy for Health and Medical Sciences at SCVTHS participated in the Raritan Valley Community College virtual Commencement on June 27th at 10:00 AM, where they received associate degrees in General Science.
During the in-person SCVTHS Graduation ceremony on July 10th, students and their families were welcomed by Superintendent Dr. Chrys Harttraft. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by speeches delivered by this year’s salutatorians and valedictorians. Head School Counselor Karen Winfield presided during the Presentation of the Graduates, followed by the new graduates taking part in the tassel turn. In closing, Principal Hector Montes gave congratulatory remarks and well wishes to the graduates.
