Erik Bielanski-Ziminski, the January 2021 Student of the Month at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School.

Erik Bielanski-Ziminski, a senior in the Carpentry Program, has been selected as Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s (SCVTHS) Student of the Month for January 2021. Erik is the son of Matthew Ziminski and Sandra Bielanski of Hillsborough.

SCVTHS Science Instructor Ms. Shannon Melick nominated Erik for the Student of the Month Award because he is a “hard-working and responsible student who excels in virtual learning, as well as in the classroom.” Social Studies Instructor Meghan Welch also nominated Erik for the award stating, “Erik is a hard-working, dedicated, and polite young man. He is an active participant in class and asks thought-provoking questions. He is helpful to his peers and teachers. Despite all that is going on, Erik has improved his work completion and has communicated concerns effectively with his teacher. He is a pleasure to have in class.” Finally, Photography Instructor Deb Gichan added, “Erik is an excellent student.”

At SCVTHS, Erik has been a three-time Stellar Student, consistently on the honor roll and was named the 2018-2019 Biology Superstar in Ms. Gotti’s Science class.  Additionally, Erik serves as a Student Ambassador and a member of SkillsUSA.

Outside of school, Erik enjoys hiking, camping, gardening and driving. When asked about his future plans, Erik stated, “I plan on attending college to obtain a degree in environmental studies and work on creating more sustainable building practices.”
