Ms. Janet Cantore-Watson, the Creative Arts Coordinator at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School, has been selected as the 2020-2021 Support Staff Member of the Year. Ms. Cantore-Watson is known for her creativity, passion and many talents.

Director of Special Services Ms. Maria Johnson stated, “Ms. Watson, Creative Arts Coordinator, is one of the most talented and versatile members of our staff. The word ‘creative’ is key here. Not only does she create most of the school's signs, flyers, posters, and banners, she is now creating SCVTHS video productions. She considers herself part of the SCVTHS ‘pretty committee’ as you often see her decorating the halls and lobbies. Ms. Watson also acts as the Student Ambassador advisor. Let’s just say, Mrs. Watson wears many hats.”

Ms. Cantore-Watson started at Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools in 1995, when she was asked to serve as a teaching artist in the Performing Arts Department. Although her job has changed, Janet has evolved to serve the whole school community. Today, Janet is heavily involved in recruiting students and keeping the community connected to SCVTS through her creative means. Janet instills the quote, "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life", into everything she does.

Some of Ms. Cantore-Watson’s other roles at SCVTS include Yearbook Advisor, New Jersey SkillsUSA Communications Specialist, a member of the Climate & Culture Committee, as well as a Zumba and Yoga instructor.

Janet’s favorite part of her job is “being allowed and trusted to create.” She went on to add, “I love working with the student ambassadors, keeping up morale and helping to guide students. I enjoy being able to help everyone. There is never a dull moment here, which makes the job challenging and fulfilling. I love making things come to life.”

Ms. Cantore-Watson is a resident of Flagtown, where she resides with her husband Doug and father Carmen Cantore. In her spare time, Janet enjoys singing, performing, creating musical instruments, spending time with family and traveling; specifically, to visit family and friends in Italy.
