Makayla Long, Student of the Month for February 2021

Makayla Long, the February 2021 Student of the Month
at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School

Makayla Long, a sophomore in the Mechatronics, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (MEAM) Program, has been selected as Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s (SCVTHS) Student of the Month for February 2021.  Makayla is the daughter of David and Mijett Long of Bound Brook.

SCVTHS Spanish Instructor Mr. Guillermo Reina nominated Makayla for the Student of the Month Award because, “academically she is the best, but it is her attitude towards learning what makes her great. Her commitment and expectations are very high and her participation is constant inside the classroom or in virtual sessions. She is very aware of her role as a student and as a classmate. In doing a SEL activity in class, it was obvious that she cares not only about herself, but also about her classmates helping my class to have a rich and welcoming environment for all. She receives my highest nomination.”

Outside of school, Makayla enjoys working out, going on walks with her dog and spending time with her friends. Additionally, Makayla is a junior member of the Finderne Fire Department and has started to learn how to code using JavaScript.

Throughout her educational career, Makayla has earned high marks and has consistently been an honors student since the 8th grade. After high school, Makayla plans on attending college to pursue an education in aerospace engineering. “I want to work at NASA after college and work on Mars rovers,” Makayla stated.
