Hosman Martinez, a senior in the Mechanics and Repair Program, has been selected as Somerset County Vocational &Technical High School’s Student of the Month for March 2023. Hosman is the son of Eliana Martinez of Bound Brook.

Several teachers at SCVTHS nominated Hosman to be Student of the Month. Mechanics and Repair Instructor Troy Shandor nominated Hosman stating, “Hosman is a diligent student who pays excellent attention to detail and is passionate about cars and outdoor power equipment. He challenges himself, and always completes the projects he is repairing and servicing in the shop. Hosman is a role model who is looked up to by his peers and teammates.”

English Instructor Cristina Perrone added, “I cannot say enough about the outstanding character of this young man. Hosman is an exemplary student who has demonstrated remarkable resilience and, despite personal adversity, is consistently kind and compassionate toward others. He has distinguished himself as a leader in our Program and throughout the school, as well as on the basketball team. Hosman has worked very hard to overcome so many obstacles in his life and I am incredibly proud of him.”

Social Studies Instructor Alyssa Egner also nominated Hosman stating, “Hosman Martinez is an impressive young man. He is kind, respectful, hardworking, positive, empathetic, motivated and a leader. He has learned all the right lessons and gained the most incredible perspective. Hosman is someone who deserves to be recognized for all that he has accomplished.”

Finally, Mathematics Instructor Bryant Jefopoulos said, “Hosman Martinez is a very respectful student who always participated in my class. He is a genuinely kind person who I think deserves the Student of the Month award.

At SCVTHS, as a member of the TOPS Student Council, Hosman has participated in various community service projects throughout the year. Most recently, Hosman assisted in collecting pet items for the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter in Bridgewater and collecting toys for the Holiday Toy Drive benefitting the Agapé House located in Somerville, NJ. Additionally, Hosman is a former SCVTHS Stellar Student and a member of the SCVTHS Boys’ Basketball Team.

In his free time, Hosman enjoys staying active and playing sports; more specifically playing, practicing, and studying basketball. Hosman’s future plans include “going to college, continuing to play and get better at basketball, and to keep studying mechanics and repair.”
