Students and advisers from Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s FFA, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Rotary Interact, and Connect4Cancer Clubs recently participated in a campus-wide cleanup. As a community service project, 18 students from the Clubs worked on different parts of the campus to collect trash.

Agricultural Science Instructor and FFA Adviser Mr. Erik Fargo stated, “This has been fun for all involved since we began several years ago. Students enjoy doing good deeds while spending time with friends as well as exploring campus areas. And it sometimes turns into a treasure hunt of sorts with students trying to be the one who finds the largest item.”

SCVTHS Agricultural Science senior Emiliana Repreza of Bound Brook added, “Over the past three years the campus clean-up has been hosted for the sole purpose of keeping our community garbage free. But now it has become something much more.  Not only are we cleaning up garbage left by people on campus, but we are also teaching ourselves to make sure that we keep the Earth in the same condition we found it in."

SCVTHS Social Studies Teacher Ms. Meghan Welch, who also serves as the adviser of the National Honor Society and Connect4Cancer Club stated, “It is an honor to participate with Mr. Fargo and FFA each year for the Campus Clean-Up, bringing students from several different clubs together for a common cause. We had a great turnout and were able to cover various areas of campus this year. I look forward to next year's event!"

SCVTHS In-Class Resource Teacher and Rotary Interact Club Adviser Mr. JT Tirrito added, “Our students enjoyed being out in the fresh air on a beautiful day, removing litter from the picturesque woods and waterways on our school campus. Many thanks to Mr. Fargo and the FFA for organizing the cleanup and for inviting other clubs to participate in it."
