During the Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School’s (SCVTHS) annual dance concert, The Women’s Project, members of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) collected items and monetary donations for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, as part of their Period Initiative.

As a result of the collection and proceeds from the concert, a $390 monetary donation was presented, along with various food donations to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.  “Our students organized this community service project in conjunction with the theme of our dance concert,The Women's Project,” stated SCVTHS NHSDA Chapter Sponsor Maureen Glennon Clayton. “In the United States, 2 in 5 people who have periods cannot afford period products. Every month, many homeless and low-income women must choose between buying period supplies and eating. Any federal assistance programs for homeless people and low-income families do not cover period products.  No woman should be restricted from eating, visiting a particular location, or engaging in a particular activity because of her period. We are very grateful to those who donated to this cause.”
